Christmas on Main Street Past

I found this photograph on a Library of Congress web site that I accessed via American Social History, my new favorite place to find primary sources. It’s circa early 1940s. I love the starkness of the white paint and the primitive quality of the triangle shapes. When I was a girl, the shops in my town had painted windows at Christmas time. I liked that.

I think I’ll be posting lots of Christmas-related items from this site as the month continues.
