The Day After Election Day, 2008

Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it’s all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it’s all right

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it’s all right

–Lennon/McCartney

Thank you to every American who knocked on doors; made phone calls; wrote letters to the newspaper; gave what money they could afford; and talked to wary relatives, friends, and neighbors. Democracy is not a spectator sport, and, with our continued efforts, it need never be again. I hope that our children and grandchildren will see participatory democracy as a normal part of life and not as something that happens for a month, a week, or, alas, for one day every four years.

Now go bask in that sunshine!
